I have done that. I had loads of fun, but not very likely to do it again.
The actual nightlife was great! But Hotel was very expensive. And taxi's were AWOL. Gridlock traffic, and they charged you extra and per person and off the meter. You have no choice as the wait is long. That is the NYE norm. If you venture to far don't expect a normal taxi before 8am the next day.
My friends basically say, hey we can go to Vegas anytime and have a good time, why NYE when it cost a lot more?

I'm from New York, never been to Times Square for New Years, but it's great watching it from afar like on the tele, but the weather must have a lot to do with it. Seems like it must be very cold to really enjoy bringing in the New Year, you don't get that in Las Vegas. Enjoy the "Big Apple".

Why are you yelling?
I've been to Vegas, but haven't been on New Year's and have no interest in it. It's supposed to be a madhouse and even super small rooms anywhere near the strip are like $300 a night. It just doesn't sound like fun to me, especially in this day & age.

Very cold but a whole lot of fun!! Personally, I'd rather walk around in the spring or fall.

why are we talking taxis? Who is taxiing on NYE? Stupid. Easy to walk + staying Downtown for the night better & more manageable anyway.

unless you stay in motel out side of city, I am afraid it's all booked.
Well, check the travel and good luck.

If you can get a reservation for NYE at a hotel for this year, I'd be impressed.
