2x - 9x = 35 [add 35 to both sides, or simply "move" -35 to the right and change the sign]

-7x = 35 [collect x-terms]

x = 35/(-7) [divide both sides by (-7)]

x = -5

2x-9x-35=0
you have to get the x's on one side and the 35 on the other;

9x-2x-35+35=0+35
you have to add 35 to the left side, and then you have to do the same to the right side. This gives you
7x=35
you then divide each side by 7 which gives you
x=5

Let's see if I can remember how to do this (been a long time). If I am understanding the question, you are solving for x.

I got the following answer: x = -5

I added the like items: 2x + -9x = -7x

I divided the entire line by -7 to get the x by itself:
(-7x/-7) - (35/-7) = 0/-7

Came up with:
x - (- 5) = 0
x +5 = 0

Subtracted 5 from each side of the equation to get X by itself
x = -5

I hope I did this right, and that you have your correct answer.

2x - 9x - 35 = 0
-7x - 35 = 0 (Add 35 to both sides)
-7x = 35 (Divide both sides by -7)
x = -5

Check:

2(-5) - 9(-5) - 35 = 0
-10 + 45 - 35 = 0
0 = 0

2x-9x-35=0 becomes
-7x-35=0 becomes
-7x=35 becomes
x= -5

Wow. Some of you answerers are really bad a math.

2X - 9X - 35 = 0
-7X - 35 = 0
-7X = 35
X = -5

Perhaps the question should be 2x^2-9x-35? Would make the question more interesting.

If so...
2x^2-9x-35 = 2x^2-14x+5x-35
(2x+5)(x-7)
x=5/2, 7

If this is as is...

combine 2x and -9x to get -7x

Add 35 to each side... so -7x = 35

Divide each side by -7... x = -5

If it's 2x^2 - 9x -35 = 0, x = 7

First, you collect like terms, getting -7x-35=0.
Then, you add 35 to both sides, -7x=35
Finally, you divide by -7, x=-5
