It's never OK to say anything racist at any time from any one---but I think that in this day and era, other racial groups are more open about their feelings about some whites. Historically, whites have been considered the 'mainstream race' here in America and most other races patterned their lifestyles after this 'norm'. Our society has seldom been openly favorable towards any group that did not readily accept the unspoken 'caste' system that permeates every level of our American culture; nearly every other race in this country has had to endure a period of discriminatory treatment by our founding brethren and it is the emergence of a renewed social conscience that I feel is evolving to rid us of old prejudices that no longer have acceptance in a progressive society...

I do agree with this question. I have heard people of a darker color call each other the N word which is derogatory and yet whites cant say it. I have seen on the news how a darker skin person called a light skinned person a cracker but yet that person did not get into trouble for a racist comment. I believe that any comment about race is wrong and should not be allowed. I also believe alot of the racisim has to do with ethnic titles that are placed on people. If you were born in America then you are American not ethnicAmerican. Stop with the ethnic titles and just be Americans and we could all start to see things alittle clearer.

First, it's not perfectly fine, a great many people are offended but simply keep quiet about it. I have the idea that there are two things happening with white people; 1) they are secure enough with their position in society that slurs, although unpleasant, don't cause that much of a reaction, and 2) if there is a reaction it isn't as simple as confronting the obnoxious individual, you wind up getting a lot of lip from the ethnic group involved AND every me-to liberal, including those in office, within earshot (and if the mess hits the press, earshot is a long way). It just ain't worth the hassle.

alot of people are starting not to like white people and i have never heard anyone from a different race say something racist. White people are really racist and need to close thir mouths because no one wants to hear their hurtful, racist comments. I like white people but they like to hurt other people. If someone of a diff. race says what might seem racist, a white person says it worse, dunno why.
