Get a bunch of big safety-pins, and pin the legs of your jeans as tight through your calf area as possible (actually given today's baggier styles, you might need to get a cheap pair of jeans from the Goodwill to pull this off - buy a size smaller than you'd normally wear). Back in the day, we'd have our friends help us with this, since they were usually too tight to get our feet through.
Then, wear two pairs of socks (in two colors that coordinate with your top), both outside of the jeans, scrunched up. The choice of shoes to wear here is a little tricky...In the '80's, we probably wore "booties", which might be hard to find. You could also wear tennis shoes - if you can find high-tops, that would be ideal, but if you can't find those, get some generic Converse.
For your top - get a sweatshirt, and rip the collar out of it...be sure that the garment is big enough that one of the shoulders falls off (just one!). You'll need a tank-top underneath (a standard wife-beater will do), again, in a color that coordinates with the scrunched up socks.
For your hair, the sideways ponytail is probably ideal. You'll want it to be up high on your head - if you can find scrunchies to put in it that coordinate with the top and/or socks, you'll be golden! I recommend that you tease both the ponytail and your bangs, since hair was definitely big back then!
For an additionally timely look, try to find a personal music player that plays tapes...The brand we all used was called Walkman, but I don't know if they even make those anymore. If you can find it, tapes of Whitney Houston, Madonna or Michael Jackson would all be appropriate, as would Weird Al Jankovic.

It depends on if you are a guy or a girl......If you are a girl big hair, lot's of blue eyeshadow, tight leggings.with a mini skirt, long shirt cut to hang off your shoulder. 80's clothing for women has come back so you can actually go to Target to get your outfit. And if you are a guy polo with the collar up, tight jeans pegged at the bottom, Letterman jackets, and Chuck Taylor high-tops.
Hope this helps

If you have like a mini skirt.. jean skirt preferably, but we wore lots of skirts then, and a big baggy Bright colored top. you could tie it in a side knot at the bottom. Go to the dollar store and find the largest hoop earings, brightly colored preferably. There was Much neon going on then. get 2 pair of different colored socks.... wear 2 different colored socks on each foot, scrunched, (like on one foot have 1 black and 1 pink or whatever then do the same on the other foot.) Do you know what you are doing with your hair? Side ponytails were always my fave. Or big poofy hair. sounds fun.. I miss the 80's. :)

Here are some ideas for 80's costumes, just in case you are going to an eighties theme party any time soon. You could also host an eighties themed party. Themed parties are really fun. You could have a band at your house and have everyone dress up!
For 80's costumes ideas watch: Valley girl, Purple Rain, Dirty Dancing, Pretty in Pink, Pretty Woman.
Looks: Heavy metal, hooker look
Ingredients:
Hair: Big hair, faux hawk, feathered hair
Makeup: blue, purple eye shadow, eyeliner, pink lips, lots of makeup.
Clothes: jeans(jordasche), tight jeans that come new, collar up, leotard shirts, big shirt/sweater to go over your tight shirt, tights (wear leg warmers with them), stockings
Accessories: Big tacky pastel colored plastic jewelry (the tackier the better), thick bangles, leg warmers, lace gloves, metalic belts, shoulder pads, witch boots
You can get most eighties clothing at your local Goodwill, and Salvation Army stores.
Outfit ideas:
Outfit #1: acid wash jeans, Hanes mens T-shirt, (Cut the neck of the Hanes mens t-shirt so one side hangs over one of your shoulders), (tie a knot in the bottom of the shirt, oposite side of the showing shoulder), put hair in high pony tail on the side of your head with a scrunchy, put on big platic earings, pink lipstick, and blue eyeshadow.
Outfit #2: eighties dress with colored pantyhose (cut at mid calf)

Okay, I love this look:
Jean skirt, with black leggings, and short boots, or converses look best. Then and oversized shirt that you wear off-the-shoulder (only one shoulder) over a tank top, curly or wavy [big] hair, with bright colored bangles, big earrings, and a long beaded necklace that you can loop twice if you'd like. Have fun!

Definitely wear footless thights/leggings with a skirt, and off the shoulder sweatshirt or a t shirt.
w/ leg warmers, chucks/checkered vans or pumps. wear lots of plain beads and jewelery.
also make your hair with a pony tail to the side
recently in my school, the freshmen dressed for their era which was the 80's.
