My chrysler 300m's steering wheel is locked upside down and I cannot get it unlocked. The key will not turn either way. What is weird is that the gearshifter will move fine. I can move it in and out of park with no problem. I just can't get the car to start or the wheel to move.

It is a '99 to the individual who asked what year. I can get the wheel to move 1/2 inch to an inch either way untill it hits something, you know, likes its liked. It's not like it is just hard to turn, it just won't turn (the wheel that is). The key won't even budge though. The wheel actually springs back when I try and turn it. But it is still in its locked position.

The anti-theft device in the steering column has been engaged. Sit in your car and move the wheel back and forth while stepping on the brake pedal. It should loosen up eventually.

Husband works for chrysler. Says to move the steering wheel back and forth while turning key at the same time. It has completely locked on you and this is the only way to get it undone. You should feel a popping when it comes unlocked and the key should turn. Just keep turning it back and forth (as much as possible). Might take a while but it will unlock. Hope this helps

yeah, the steering wheel was turned when you shut off your engine and locked itself into the column. Put the key back into the ignition and try forcing the steering wheel back to its original starting point and at the same time try to start the engine with e the key. It should unlock itself and start.
good luck..........
