I would like to move the position of my stove. To do so (with the circuit off naturally) it seems that I will have to open up the heavy duty outlet. A thick black cord is connected to the 30A outlet. I would like to open the outlet up, dismantle the wiring - reposition the outlet and stove and reconnect the wiring just as it was. Foresee any issues? I am assuming that if I dismantle the inside of the outlet, that I can put it back together in the same way.

I have looked into extension cords and it seems that I would need at least a 10' cable, besides the fact that it is hard to find, isn't it a 'stretch' to pass that many amps through that sort of cable? Hence not making any cords bigger than 10'?

You should have no problems in doing what you have described. Just make sure that you get the wires back onto the proper terminals and sufficiently tightened so there are no problems in the future.

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to do but I have a suggestion which MAY be worthless. Are you aware that there is an extension cord made specifically FOR heavy appliances? I think it's about $15. or maybe $20.00 but it is good for those odd situations where someone wants to turn a stove 90 degrees for better space or access. Usually the manufacturer's pig tail is too short to allow repositioning. The extension allows for repositioning and safety! And yes kill the power before doing ANY mods to any appliance.

if you are going to move it so that you have to cut some off no i think that would be fine. but if you have toi extend it then you could do it yourself but you might give an electrican a call. your 30 amp range outlet its either a 3 wire or a 4 wire outlet. if 3 one black , white, and a bare then the bare is yourt ground. black and white are hot. but what i think by your description you will also have a red wire in the buntch. then you got #8 or #6 wire and that is a great thing! it can carry more amps. but the Red and Black are HOT and the white is you neutral and bare is ground. BUT MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF!!!!

Sure can. They come apart easily. Either snap together or have a couple of screws. Just shut off the breaker & use a volt tester to verify the power is off. The wires are attached inside with screw clamps. Just reassemble back to the same connections.
