all over the city. It depends on where your going. Some places you want to go to and there's really no nearby bus (or train) station. In some of the surrounding suburbs you can take a ride on Pace Buses (I've never ridden in one before but I've heard they're nice+). There's also CTA trains and metra trains that goes through the city too.

In addition to many routes in the Loop and some routes that are a more complicated circuit (esp. in Loop) a good short answer is about every 4 blocks across the entire grid of the city, with some exceptions.
