i have cleared the history but its when i log in to the net it takes me straight to a site for downloading?

Sorry for digressing.

First things first, dizzy Di, please exit the "download page" as soon as soon as it opens, when you restart your comp this time; by clicking on the red button with the x on the top right corner of your browser.

Now, go to Start and click on it. Go to Settings or Control Panel and click on it. In the Control Panel, go to Network and Internet Connections and click on it. Now, here, go to Internet Options and click on it.

Here in Internet Options, first of all delete the address of the download page that you see in the first option - "Home Page" dialog box and type in http://www.yahoo.com and then click on use current.

Now, come down to the next Option and click on Delete Cookies and Delete Files. You'll be prompted to "Delete all offline Content?" click a tick mark in the empty box there then click OK.

Now come down a bit and click on "Delete History". And, finally, clcik on Apply and OK down there and exit the Window.

This should have resolved the issue for you.

If it was a malicious program which set your start page changing this
in Internet options may not always overrdide this as it may have also written this
page to your windows registery. You'll therefore also have to change it there.

To do this click Start - Run - enter 'regedit' in the open box.
This will give you an explorer type view.

Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

On the right hand window find 'Start Page' and right click selecting modify.
In the value data box change the value to the page you'd like as your homepage click ok then close regedit.

Restart your pc for these changes to be read into memory.
