It is parked and I cannot get the key to turn. The wheel is actually upside down. The gear shifter can be moved from park all the way down to the lowest gear though surprisingly. Any help would be appreciated as I am screwed right now because the key will not turn over to start.

Check the steering column for a lock. I had a car once that locked up and It was only when I read the manual that I found out about this feature.
Phone a Chrysler dealership and ask them

The steering wheel is in a bind - probably against a curb - U or somebody needs 2 hold heavy pressure against the steering wheel (like turning it) one way or the other ! It's either turned 2 far 2 the right or left !

Pull hard on the steering wheel in either direction while turning the key, this should unlock the mechanism that is keeping the key from turning.

Thats what the problem is, the interlock broke or is jammed. Put it in park and try cranking the steering wheel both directions as hard as you can while trying to turn the key. Unless you are really lucky its dealer time.

It sounds like a broken ignition lock.

It is possible to start the car, but it requires the steering column to be disassembled.
