Adrenaline creates a focused/heightened sensory state... the "rush." It also causes nausea, vomiting, and a dry mouth. Some people enjoy the sensation of an adrenaline rush, others don't. The difference in taste sometimes has to do with the types of situations when adrenaline was experienced... intense fun or intense fear. In others it is just a predisposed trait.

When you are stressed, really stressed, than the effect of adrenaline will make you not care that much, and just put all your effort into dealing with the stress. The effect of adrenaline on the body is actually a good feeling. There is such a thing called "runner's high" which appears when someone runs for a long distance. The system is under so much stress, that it starts to create adrenaline. This gives a good feeling to the person.
The stress that makes your body create adrenaline is not the same as the stress of exams, or work. It is more primitive, something that endangers your life, or might cause you bodily harm.
People who like roller coasters my become "high" from excess adrenaline production also, which creates the "addiction", but I haven't read anything about this relationship. I know that there's a theory that people who are thrill seekers have different level of serotonin(a neurotransmitter) in their brain. But I'm not aware of anything related to adrenaline.

Adrenaline is also a natural appetite supressant, and is quite motivating. That's why once you start working out vigorously in the morning, it helps you throughout the day; it energizes you. It's kind of like a natural "high" but without drugs.

Some people fear arenaline producing activities like rollercoasters, yet they work out regularly or play sports.

Some people are not as likely to take risks with thei lives, yet they still crave adrenaline. When you think about it, some people are risk takers purely because they crave the adrenaline rush.

There is an old saying that "the human race has a death wish" which is why some people are such risk takers. Risk taking has also been associated with ADD/ADHD.

It's all relative, I guess.

Just ask a few soldiers that have had to keep their guard up and remain in "fight or flight mode" for up to a week without rest or any type of break. Many of them now crave normalcy and sometimes mundane stability. Not only have they had to be in harm's way, but they also have had to endure such states physically (that the body typically is in temporarily) for days on end. What do you think that does to their health?

Simply because people are different, in type and taste. There are thrill-seekers, and placidity lovers, and others falling within the two extremes.
