YES. The panels do have to come out. And yes, regaurdless of what "the other, other guy" said about buying "trees", buy some!
It is almost a gaurantee you will break at least one on each door when you remove the panel. If you dont' break them you stretch them out making them loose when you reinstall the panel causing the possibility of rattling. If ignored you could be rattling yourself into insanity.

Of course the panels have to be removed. The pins that hold the panel are called trees. Buy new trees each time the panel is taken off to prevent rattles.
