Take ALL of the antibiotics prescribed by your MD. Drink cranberry juice, urinate after sex and definitely wipe from front to back. We infect ourselves by wiping back to front...

Hopefully it isn't caused by a kidney stone thats lodged somewhere in the urinary tract system. The best prevention is following a regular plan consisting of everything thats been mentioned above and....Specifically cranberry capsules at least 600 mg of cranberry extract daily. You'll also need magnesium, potassium and vitamin B6 ( taken nightly before bed) will help prevent uric acid crystals from forming( these keep the urine clean).Wipes are too strong to use frequently and will actually disturb and irratate the tissue surrounding *certain* areas. Gentle soap combined with a "power wash" of the area from front to back after each bm with a shower head or bidet will eliminate 99% of future infections.Do this and say goodbye to UTI's.

Your poor women!! No bubble baths?? 600mgs of cranberry per day??@!! No need my friends.
I WAS a long-time sufferer of UTIs. I would get 2 a month and I let this go on for a good 3 years before FINALLY going to see an urologist. He told me that to get as many as I did, it wouldnt've mattered if I made sure to wipe front to back and yaddah yahhah yahdah. He said my problem was due to the fact that my opening was just too small and urine would get "left behind" because it couldn't all get out. This caused bacteria to build up in about 2 wks time and give me another UTI.
To solve this problem, he stretched my opening with a thing that resembled a very thin pippette. He did it in the office and it certainly didn't hurt more than my UTI pain!! It took 10 minutes. It has been 10 yrs since he did this to me and I haven't had a damn one yet!!
Trust me, I STILL try to keep a little cranberry juice in my life (I buy the cran-grape or cran-rasberry instead to offset the all-cran taste while still getting the benefits) just in case but I do it quite rarely (like, once a month maybe when we happen to have the juice in the house). And I naturally clean up (and pee) after sex as it's just somethign I've always wanted to do. But I always forget to wipe the right way. I take a bubble bath whenever the heck I want to. I pretty much lead a normal life :) thanks to that doc.
I was surprised that no one mentioned it so maybe it's not done anymore? Or maybe I had a super-severe case of it (felt like it)........but I would ask. Especially, for those on here that say they get it no matter what they do. I'd bring this up to a urologist. Don't ask an ER doc or a Gen Pract. Go to a specialist as I wouldn't want anyone who wasn't well practiced in this procedure to attempt to stretch my ANYTHING!!! lol. Good luck with this!!!

Cranberry juice, cranberry concentrate, cranberry sauce, cranberry pills, and lots and lots of water...oh did I mention cranberries? Seriously, cranberries contain a natural antibiotic that keeps the Urinary Tract flushed and clean. Most health food stores will sell the concentrate and the pills. Everything else you can get at the local supermarket.

First thing is to look at why you are getting them. I got several until I figured out it was my diaphragm, so I changed birth control, and I stopped getting them.
Until then, don't take baths, or if you must, do not put anything into the water (salts, suds, etc)
Be sure to urinate after intercourse. If you can, rinse yourself off, as well.
Wipe front to back, not back to front.
Drink some cranberry juice (low sugar) every day.
Herbally, take goldenseal capsules at the first sign of a UTI, as well as marshmallow root and uva ursi (all should be available at a health food store).
Good luck!

you just need a regular soap for down there. i was recommended dial original bar soap (the gold one ). i also heard baby wash is fine too. they're both gentle. make sure you completely rinse or that could cause a UTI. cranberry juice (100%) is good to drink along with plenty of water. finally, sleeping sans underwear is a really good tip! all the girls in my family swear by it. if you must wear pajama bottoms to bed thats ok, just dont wear undies but its good to go without both every now and then

i have been battling UTI's since I was 6 years old-over 20 years. i agree with all the other entries (with a couple of thoughts to add)- 8 to 10 glasses of water a day, urinate after intercourse, wipe front to back, cranberry juice (pills if you can't stand to drink it), NO BUBBLE BATHS!!! stay away from hot tubs too- they are a bacteria haven. also, panties with white cotton on the inside (no dye in the crotch area), UNscented feminine products. be sure to see a doctor to make sure you don't have any structural defects (small opening from the bladder to your urethra). always take the full course of antibiotics when they are prescribed.

Hygiene, and no bubble baths. Most little girls get UTI's cause they love bubble baths and due to the urethra being so short, they get irritation and before you know it, UTI.
Cleans regularly, drink plenty of water and most people like Cranberry juice. If this becomes a recurring issue with you, follow up with your doctor to see if there isn't something else going on with you inside.

I have been doing all of these, except the goldenseal and uvi ursi, including black cherry extract pills to prevent re-infection and got another one within one month of my last one.
I am going to start wearing white cotton undies (that are washed in hot water with bleach). My colored undies end up in the cold water, and I think that doesn't kill the bacteria.
If anyone has had success preventing, I would love to know your secrets - too.

I'm prone to UTIs after intercourse. My doctor gave me an antibiotic to take after sex, and I haven't gotten a UTI since! My doctor said it's perfectly safe to take up to one pill a day, and there is no need to worry about the little buggers developing a resistance to the antibiotics - these antibiotics are very specific to UTIs, and there are stronger ones out there, if need be.
