...It's not as if you people are doing such a good job of upholding the institution of marriage to begin with.

So why not let them gay folks give it a whirl? They couldn't possibly end up a bigger failure than the rest of you.

I think the idea of gay marriage messes with people's belief systems. But I do agree with your sentiments.

To kickinupfun: It's not just about benefits. Did you know that if you were gay and had a "life partner", and you ended up in the hospital--then your partner would not even have the right to come visit you, because they are not "family"?

Failure is not the issue. The issue is purly polical. And really has nothing to do with marriage. It has to do with getting what they feel they are missing, 1. rights to the others SS after death.
2 Health rights.....3. Inheritance rights.

Now....the SS is an issue, of course its about MONEY
Health is an issue, but no so much any more cause most health companys allows a partner to be part of a health insurance policy now. But it s MONEY

Inheritance, was never and issue in truth, cause one only need to write a will, its about MONEY.

Marriage is by diffination between a woman and a man.

However, if gays wish to tie the knot what is wrong with the civil cerimoney. ....after all half the people today get married by a justic of the peace...its the only thing the JP does anymore.

Sit down...this answer may surprise you. I am straight, married, conservative and Christian. But I believe that what is done in a government civil service should be completely up to the voters of the country and have nothing to do with the church. I don't believe that me and my fellow Christians should be able to tell anyone, gay or straight, that they can't marry someone they love in a civil service.

That's why we live in America. These are the principals that our country was founded on. We should all have the freedom to pursue happiness, as long as it doesn't harm other people. And two people (whatever gender) who love each other enough to profess that in public and bind their lives together certainly aren't harming anyone.

Anyone remember this?

Just kidding.I could care less if gays were allowed to marry. Then you all could be just as miserable as the rest of us.

Not all of us, don't let the last 2 elections fool you into thinking we are as bigoted as the current administration. The last 2 elections were very questionable.

Tell you what, you clean up all the social problems in your country and we'll do what we can here in America.

And btw: I really don't appreciate being lumped into a category of "failure".

It's not all of us. Personally, I don't care who marries whom. However, some people somehow think that allowing gay people to marry harms heterosexual marriage. I guess that adultry thing isn't a problem at all.

Exactly. Besides, the straight and narrow people HATE abortion and birth control. Gay married people do neither of those things!
