In the U.S A. the last national poll came up with (this is horrible) the average posted licensed marriages at 5 years. this was done 3 yrs ago. worst part is thinking how long these relationships last. You know what I mean. The reasons for these are apparent. $$, betrayal,(I use the real word) and all that comes with immaturity, that dreaded word "incompatibility" which is far too easy to use. Yes?...R

According to stats posted at Silverman Sherliker (solicitors) in 2002 it was 11 years for marriages ending in divorce.

But certain groups bring down the average:
- previous divorce: second marriage more likely to end in divorce and shorter longevity

(plus other various other risk factors).

A government information site gives the averages for 2003 and 2004 as 11.3 years and 11.5 years respectively for longevity of marriages ending in divorce.

(On a technical note, because of the shape of the distribution of length of marriages the median is a better measure than the average).

The average marriage doesn't last. Sad but true. You said you have been married 6 years and still strong. Mine was strong at 6 years too and ended at 14 years. I wish you better luck.

A marriage lasts for how long you want it to last. Many people get into marriage without realizing that marriage is a sacrifice and you need to make compromises every single day to your life.

For as long as you and your spouse want to make it last. Marriage is a job and requires hard work to maintain. Unfortunately that's something that's not taken into account anymore which is why so many marriages fail.
