working for an electrical retailer earning about £30k as manager to retrain as a plumber in london. i'm pretty sick of the rubbish that you have to put up with in retail so am having a career change. what's your thoughts?

I must say you're certainly brave to give up such a comfortable wage, to enter something which doesn't have a definitive annual wage: you have to rely on people needing your services to put food on the table. I can understand your plight though: i also work in retail and yes, both upper management, lower management and customers can all be totally annoying at the best of times. I wish you the best of luck all the same: i genuinely hope it works for you. Its a risk, but it could be well worth it, even for a bit less money: job satisfaction can be better than a decent wage sometimes. Good luck to you!

That's a good idea but I think you should emigrate to US coz you get more sex being a plummer with all those desperate housewives. But then you have to learn a whole new language too i.e. Tap = fawcet. Mate = dude etc etc etc. Could be a bit of an adventure though. Let us know how you get on.

being there, done that, (not the plummer part) i worked in retail for a while, its not that great, i would go for the plummer retraining, it might not be a better paid job, (but then again) but you will be happyer, what do you want from the change?

good question.

I think whatever makes you happy. Nothing is worse than going through life at a job you don't like. Hope things work out for you. I wish you good luck!
