It helps to have worked for or at least gotten advice from a successful home cleaning operator. If you haven't had any experience doing home cleaning you may change your mind once you've experienced some of the pitfalls. Asking the question is the beginning in getting valuable advice. Find someone local that is willing to share their expertise with you.

Word of mouth is the best advertising. You need to find some very talkative/connected clients to clean for. If you do good work, you'll get recommended to others. Look into insurance coverage as well, it's a nice thing to be able to put on a sign that you are bonded.
