Ohio, the region north of the Ohio River and south of the Great Lakes. Ohio's southern border is defined by the Ohio River and much of the northern border is defined by Lake Erie. It borders Pennsylvania on the east, Michigan to the north, Indiana to the west, Kentucky on the south, and West Virginia on the southeast. Roughly centered at about 40 degrees North latitude and 83 degrees West longitude (location of the state capital, Columbus). Bordered on the northwest by the state of Michigan, on the north by Lake Erie, the commonwealth of Pennsylvania to the east, the state of West Virginia to the southeast, the commonwealth of Kentucky to the southwest, and the state of Indiana to the west.
