My husband and I are trying to find a nice hotel (3 star and up) in Monterey for the first week in December for a second honeymoon. Ideally, we want a place with a fireplace and spa services. If we could get couples massage in our room we'd be in heaven. As for the location, we need something that is walking distance from restaurants, shopping, maybe a movie theater. We're both military and forced to live in Florida (we're originally from California) so this is our first vacation together since 2003. We need to relax and want to do it somewhere nice. Any suggestions?

Portola Plaza Hotel is right by Fisherman's Wharf and within walking distance of Cannery Row. They have an on site Spa, not sure if they offer in room massages. Jack's restaurant and Peter B's are two of our favorite places. Jacks is more formal, while Peter B's is the brew pub(with on site brewing).

Monterey Plaza Hotel is right on Cannery Row and their Spa does offer in room massages.

since you are military, chcek into visiting the NPS ITT office(located in the main admin building) to check out discounts for the Aquarium and other venues. Also, stop by Taste of Monterey(on Cannery Row, second floor of the building next to Bubba Gumps), have a wine tasting, and if you buy a bottle they have a list of local restaurants that do not charge corkage fees.

The option that i would recommend would be the Monterey plaza hotel and spa, which is a 4 star accomodation and its almost in the city center which makes it very near to all the restaurants and movie theaters as well. As an added advantage the hotel had spa services which as you wanted has massage service as well.

There are so many, you will have a lot to choose from depending on the price you are willing to pay.

I've heard that the Old Monterey Inn B&B is nice. They have spa services on site.
