We had to get different cable box that receives the HD signal from the cable company. It does cost a few bucks more a month but the clarity is worth it.

You need to also have an HD antenna if you want to receive HD programs, but if you don't subscribe to any HD packages, the HD programs you will receive will be the local network ones.

Well, itf you bought it, you should only be paying one payment, not extra. So I would say no.
