I've been wondering about this myself. Some societies say it means embracing the 'Western' culture. And then there's the question... What is 'Westernism' and 'Western' culture'?

I believe being modern does not mean leaving behind your religious values or cultural values. It means accepting the changes in the world, like technological changes.. or changes education wise.
