I paid $1.89/9 this afternoon in the middle of South Carolina.
The cost has gone down because demand is flat, supplies are up, and for us in the states, there hasn't been a bad hurricane season, plus it was a mild summer (low demand).
Don't let the Chicken Little's get to you. Elections in the US have no measurable effect on the price of oil world wide.

Still $2.60 a gallon for regular on the Oregon coast..It's gone down because we're 3 weeks from an election and the Republicans want us all to think things are great so that we'll forget the war they got us into in Iraq, and also (want us to forget, ) that gas prices have been so high.. you''ll hear other reasons, but that is what is happening..
It's another manipulation of the American public by the Bush Administration.

$2.54 for regular in San Jose (cheap); expensive is $2.69. It has gone down due to supply and demand; Nobody knows how soon it will rise, but the price of all commodities does that depending on supply and demand.

Oil went up a dollar a barrel today. It is 2.12 in Arkansas. It went up three cents from the past week. I look for it to go back up again, too.
