amen brother. They've all got it comin' to 'em. The best you can hope for in life is to find one who knows it.

Gee... you should just be happy she's willing to pay half. Quite frankly there is no double standard... it's whatever you can negotiate. If you're more than willing to walk away if she doesn't pay then by all means negotiate, but don't put right or wrong in the equation. It's up to you to decide if it's worth paying half to have her as your gal pal. Remember every situation is different... for some girls, regardless of what they make it is important to have the guy pay on dates... it makes them feel special... for other girls they like to feel important by paying 100%. Think about your specific situation and what you want in a "gal pal" and decide if you want to keep her or move on.

That's not a double standard, that is called being grown up and paying your own way. If you were married, then what is hers would become yours and what's yours whould become hers, but you are not married so you have to pay your half.
To expect your gal pal as you call her to pay your way is like saying that because your parents are richer than you are, they should pay your way. Not so, you want to be an adult, you have to pay the price.
And by the way, not all girls are kept by men, and I'm sure if you're worth it, you can find a woman who will keep you but it won't give you any satisfaction, if you have any pride in yourself.

Things like this are not about money they are about respect. If you can't afford to live by your Friends standards than you need to feel comfortable enough to say something. If something so simple is taboo at this point than this relationship is going nowhere. Think about it and don't go broke in the process. It may be for nothing.

Men are to be the bread winners. That's just the way society is set up. And seriously, do you really want her to buy you everything? Eventually, you would feel all weak because you're not supporting her.

Because we want it. There are too many old traditions that society stands by and it keeps us from going towards everything being equal. Besides, a girl still wants to be felt like she can be taken cared of. One of them is financially securing them.

Because there are groups of people proclaiming to be better than other people. Say for instance giving "dignitaries" preference over other people. Example: fixed tickets, giving to those who already have. I could go on but I hope this answered your question.
