I always hear from people (the white libs of course) that calling a person with African roots black is rude and wrong.

Would you be offended if people called you black or do you want to be called African-American or what?

First of all, I am glad you are actually asking a person of color, rather than relying on what other white people THINK is wrong.

I don't care if someone calls me black. I am not easily offended, though.

Some black people are very sensitive and you should probably refer to them as African-American until they indicate it is okay to refer to them otherwise.

I'm not offended if someone called me black. The labels that were give are black and white. Neither makes sense to me but it is what the government uses to categorize and separate us further. I don't have to be called African-American. I won't get upset either way unless it is being used in a insulting context. The bottom line is that I know who I am and that is all that is important to me.

Isn't it more offensive to call a Black person African-American if they're not African? I'm sure all the West Indians get really pi$$ed off!

Are white people in America called European-Americans? No! That would be silly!

And Mark D - if coloured people is offensive, how come NAACP doesn't change it's name to NAAAA?

Very thrilling question by way of fact i don't comprehend lots approximately this. All I ought to declare is that in the event that they are able to't discover w/ people of the comparable blood/ancestors by way of fact they are "embarrassed", is genuinely ridiculous. Do they think of they are extra effective than us? Is it extra of an "American" or "Black" element? that's the place i'm at a loss for words. and don't they comprehend that not all Black people are "ghetto", so as that they must place off of judging us from what they see in Western media or uncommon encounters w/ ignoramus. The U.S., in basic terms like everywhere else, has a seen "decrease classification" society, and American Blacks at the instant are not the only team in that classification. thank you for this question!

This is actually quite a good contentious question. Do you mind if I ask you a rhetorical question? What are your feelings if I called you white or shall I call you a European American?

You see the old adage of sticks and stones ring true. I don't care what you call me as long as you care for me.

There are too many shameful blacks who want to pontificate on the fineries of language but do not give a fcuk to kill you for a $5 debt. I think what I am trying to say my brother is this.. I Humanist don't give a damn about your color, but, I do give a damn if you are a decent human being.

The Bible says, "Blessed are they that love the law In nothing shall they be offended"

Nothing anyone could do or say would offend me. I love the Laws of God and base my life on them

actually, people in africa are offended when people here in the US call themselves "african american"....it's an insult for them since they don't "live" in the US... so for me, (if i am one), would prefer to be called black

Depends in which context you use it in. If you say "Hey, Black guy!", then I find it slightly offensive because you can just say "Hey!". If you say I'm "black with black hops", that's just stereotyping, and I guess that's okay, but I'm not really sure... In my opinion, just say "African-American".
