You can buy a french maid outfit from a costume shop for pretty cheap. Also check on ebay. Or you could make/buy the parts seperately. Basically, you need a short black skirt, preferably with a petticoat underneath. You need a low-cut black top. Then a little white apron, hopefully lace-trimmed. A cute little lace maid's cap is always a good idea. Then of course you carry around a feather duster.
To look dead, I would recommend having some outlandish means of death very visible. For example, you can get a fake gunshot wound at the drug store in the Halloween section. You spirit gum the gun hole to your forhead, then apply tons of fake blood so you look like a french maid who got shot in the face. Or, you could buy one of those fake metal spikes or axes that are designed to look like they're sticking out of your head. That's if you want to look freshly dead.
On the other hand, if you want to look like a zombie, use makeup. Use ashy gray makeup all over your face and neck. Hmm, if your costume is revealing, you might need to use it on chest/arms/legs too. Then use a darker gray to create really dark under-eye circles and to create the 'sunken cheeks' look. In that case you would also want to make the maid's costume look old and ratty, like the person above said.

Add cobwebs to a regular French maid costume. For makeup, use black/grey makeup around your eyes and cheeks to give them a sunken look, and white/gray makeup on the rest of your face. Also use black or blue lipstick.

my fiance' and i are going to be dead prom king and queen. ill let you know what im doing as far as makeup goes. i took a makeup fx class in college and for a dead look your best bet is: to go to a halloween costume store and (we got fake glass shards) purchase a wound kit. a good kit will contain spirit gum, latex, blood gel, latex wounds, and makeup-and directions on applying. if you want a fresh dead look buy some greyish blue face makeup and apply it thinly so you dont look too dead. you want to apply the spirit gum to your freahly washed face and place the wounds on BEFORE applying face makeup. if you need halp letting it dry just use your hair dryer on the cool setting. and so you don't smear or run- get a large makeup brush and GENTLY and LIGHTLY sweap regular baby powder over your face to set the makeup. (also, if you want to add any effects like scarring, just brush on some liquid latex, a thin layer of tissue paper and repeat until desired look and place makeup over "scar") (oh, one more tip if you end up usuing alot of face makeup, apply a thin-VERY THIN-layer of vaseline before applying the makeup this will help it remove easily with soap and water) if you have any questions about my answer or want more detail: blondie18usc@yahoo.com

You could have your french maid outfit kind of shredded and dirty, like you were in a grave, and have your makeup be really pale with dark eyes.
