No you do not need a visa just to change planes.I have landed in Guam, Taiwan, Taipei and I never had to get a visa, and I was going to the Philippines coming from America, so don't worry you will be fine. You only need a visa if you are landing there and you are going to stay there.

im guesing ur traveling on eva or china airlines, no you do not need a visa for taiwan since you are just transfering to another flight ,once you get off the plane you will be directed to go to ongoing flights and will never pass thru customs or imigration in taiwan, they will have people waiting once you step of the plane to guide you(english speaking)and there will be 2 signs saying taiwan and on-going flights. taipei has a really nice modern airport with plenty of duty free shopping while you are waiting for your flight plus if you are a smoker they have smoking rooms inside the airport where you can smoke. good luck and have fun

If it is just a transfer you do not need a visa. When I travel from UK to Taiwan I change planes in Bangkok, Thailand, and there is no need for a Thai visa unless you leave the airport. So don't worry. You don't need a thing except your passport and ticket (and visa for your final destination, if required.

I've flown thru Taipei last year on China Airlines. (Was coming from San Francisco on my way to Manila flying on a US Passport)
I didn't need a visa to change planes. While you're in the airport, you're considered "in transit" and unless you plan on leaving the airport to do some sightseeing, you won't need a visa while you're in Taipei.

If you hold a US Passport, no you will not need a transit visa in Taiwan--unless you plan to leave the airport to venture outside and have to check back in later to continue your flight.

You would only require a visa if u go out of the airport. If you stay within the airport premises then you would not need the visa. As i suppose you are an american citizen.

No, you don't need a visa for country you just stop to catch the connection plain.
I passed Japan and they actually confined us in an area for waiting 2 hours for our connection.
Have some snacks and good books in your carried back.
