My friends and I are students from overseas. We are arguing over the term "PLEASE PRINT IN BLACK". Some insisted that it means you have to write in BLOCK letters and use black pen. Some argued that it doesn't matter whether you write in block letters or not. You can even use blue ink as long as your handwriting is neat and tidy.
Who is correct? Please help.

Print in black mean print in black ink. If they wanted you to use block letters they would use the words "block letters". Simple as that.

Print in balck simply means capiatl letters using black ink. When you sign for a parcel you have sign and print, when it asks you to print it is asking for capiatl letters so they can see correct spelling of your name. Most forms are scanned onto the company's computer database. They need to clearly see the writing as it will not always understand peoples handwriting. If it did not matter about the writing it will just say use black or blue ink. This is answer is 100% correct as I work with forms.

Sounds like the text you are entering will be scanned into some forms databse, hence the requirement to "print" and use "black" ink: black ink is less susceptible to color shifts/misreads by the scanner compared to blue ink. Blue ink tends to be rendered very faint or not at all by some (older) scanners. Stick with black and print clearly for best results.

It prints as close because it would want to. you are able to play round with the settings like you probably did yet you actually finally end up with darkish pink or eco-friendly. however in case you had a black cartridge it would want to apply the coloration. The ink manufacturers get extra for the coloration cartridges and do it on purpose. I in a number of of situations take the coloration cartridge out if im going to print a group of textual content

It generally means that you need to use black ink and print neatly. All governmental entities that require such a thing (and the post office) prefer all caps (block letters) because it is generally neater.

I'm guessing that print in black means just what it says: print in black. It doesn't matter if you write in block letters. However, I'm not positive.

Hope this helps! :-)

I agree that the phrase means to print (write, or type) in black. In addition to reading our answers I would suggest asking the person who gave you the paper. Perhaps there is a typo and the directions mean to "Please print in back" this could also be the case.
It is unusual to ask for upper case and more common to require a type of pen to fill something out.

It means don't use longhand (or script) and use black ink. It needn't be block letters, which implies all caps. It can be upper and lower case, but printed. They'd be tickled if you'd type it, but who has a typewriter anymore.)
