becuase life is not measured in years of "life" but years of living, and so many great musicians live every second of their lives, that they have had a much more fufilled life than those who live to be 100 but never experiance the world or take chances or live out their fears.

Well.. I have a theory..
Artists a lot of people think are amazing and happen to be dead all seem to have died at the peak of their powers...
Hendrix
Joplin
Bolan
Kobain
as a few examples...
If Kurt was alive today he'd probably be doing bad accoustic music which would have the collected music press sayign things like "he never wrote anything good after In Utero"..
The fact he died when he did means the legend lives on because unlike someone like McCartney he never produced a "Frog Chorus" but a heck of a lot of "Eleanor Rigby"'s...
I think that makes my point....

Can we judge a young musician as being great. If they had kept going how do you know they would have been great? They could have been one-hit-wonders

They can't handle their success, they end up doing drugs and that's the main cause of death. Many rockstars are members of the famous 27 club, it means that they were all 27 when they died, Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, etc. all part of the club, both drug induced deaths =[ such a waste.

They didn't or couldn't look after themselves. It's a hard life. Too little money to buy decent food and shelter, when struggling for the sake of your art can kill you. To-day they can find charity grants or part-time work. Equally a lot couldn't handle fame and fortune and excess kill them.. That's my guess.
