Usually this happens when you have too much liquid in your stomach or you are not breathing properly. Side cramps are pretty common for people who are not "athletes," e.g. they do not know how to warm up properly, cool down properly, run properly. If this happens again, try just laying on the ground (to stretch your abdominal muscles and to breathe the correct way without thinking about it) and take a few deep breaths.... in through the nose, out throught the mouth. This should make the cramps subside.
Stretch well before running and cool down after. Don't drink a ton of liquid while running or working out, just what you need to wet your whistle. And don't drink a ton immediately afterward, this could make you nauseous and start the cramps back.
