Subsidize are in place for one reason- to keep prices set at a level that makes the farmer money and doesn't make prices rise too much.

1. If all farmers were to plant, say, wheat. The price would bottom out of the market because so much wheat was grown. They couldn't give it away. No profit, no farm next year. Now no wheat or anything else. So the government gives some farmers money not to grow a crop. "If you don't grow wheat, I will make it worth your while."

2. Some crops don't do as well growing, do to weather, insect or just a bad year. This raises the price of the finished product to a price that people will not able to afford it. The government gives money to level out the price. "That head head of lettuce would cost $2.50. I'll pay you a $1.50 so that you can sell it for $1."

People whine, but it keeps food being produce to feed the growing population.

So you don't have to eat foods from Third World farms. Would you eat North Korean rice? Mexican spinach? Afghani Llama chops? What's the matter with subsidizing an American industry within America's borders? Be more concerned with why your tax dollars subsidize an unjust war or an oil company that doesn't need it or a contractor that donates to the party in power for no-bid contracts---what we give farmers is "chickenfeed" compared to those entities.

Farmers are the backbone of this nation..If all the small farms or family owned ones would sell out then what do you think vegetable prices or fruit prices would be. One bit of bad weather at the wrong time kills plants. What if all your hard work for a whole summer blew up in your face would you consider giving your summer earnings back to your employer?

Because without farmers, you would be out in the fields trying to find something to eat. If you don't wanna get your hands dirty or shoot things to eat, then you need to be willing to help those out that do.

sometimes a crop will just go bad. government subsidy keeps that farm running another year instead of folding up. supposedly, there are corporate owned farms out there getting some subsidy, I got a problem with that. But the system is set up to protect family owned farms.

without the farmers, we'd have to grow our own food. If you don't want to eat the food they grow, start growing your own. Make sure you have enough for the winter too.
