Cos everyone knew the group as Dire Straits. I guess Knopfler never quite made his Mark as a solo guitarist.

ahhhhhhhh.....
thats really wierd, I was just thinking of asking a question about why people dont like dire straits.

I think essentially Knopfler is very uncool. And his music is quite bland,
Dont get me wrong though, when Im drunk il fight anyone who disagrees that 'Money for Nothing' is the best song ever written.

I have no idea mate but he should be ....... GOING HOME ,,, one of the best peices of guitar i have heard, and the best part is hearing it played at the beginning of every newcastle united match, fair enough newcastle are doing crap at the moment, but that being played at the start of everymatch gets the blood pumping and ready for a good game, the cheering whilst its played in the back ground the lads runnin onto the pitch pure class!!! and for that my friend i agree with you that he should be in the top 10 for that music piece alone

Good question. The man's a living legend.
And why are Gary Moore and Chris Rea never mentioned either?
These are the three musicians who inspired me to buy my first guitar and a big book of chords.

Because he does not have to keep getting publicity to be known, like some other tossers that need the profile.

I'd say he is right up there with some of the best, but some are more popular because they had more hits or more publicity, etc.

Good question. He's damn good. But I think it's mainly because he was never a high-profile, charismatic player like Clapton, Page or Hendrix...
