I can understand your view when looking at the questions here. However, I still believe in true love and marriage. I am 53, so maybe I'm from the older generation and not "cool" or what ever words you use now.
I just cannot imagine having children and raising them without being married. There is something about the commitment involved when you marry someone.
Living together seems so temporary, while marriage seems to indicate that you intend to spend the rest of your life with that person.

That's a really loaded question, but here goes.
First, let's set some ground rules. I am not married, so anything I have to say is as an outside observer. But I truly believe that marriage is NOT for the weak, the selfish, or the insecure.
Other than that, as long as both people are mature adults who truly love and respect each other, and have good communication with each other, I see no reason why it couldn't work.

I'm sure it serves many different purposes, depending on whom you ask. I could care less about religious purposes, I got married mostly for legal and social reasons; now we can save all kinds of $$ on taxes, gym membership, health insurance, whatnot; it just makes it much easier to run a family, which is what we now are. There are lots of benefits of being married, and if I'm going to be with this person anyway - I don't see why not take advantage of everything that society has to offer to married couples.

I don't think it is dead, I think it is reserved for people and various reasons. I married for love, some marry for the convenience of a rent partner and health benefits, some marry because they are pregnant, etc... Lots of different reasons. After being married now for 1 1/2 years, I am questioning how my love has changed, but I would never consider killing my marriage. Romance falls asleep for a while, but friendship needs to sustain.

marriage is NOT dead. in this society of instant gratification and changing desires, i think everyone would want to be married. people give up on their relationships so easily, being married gives you a little more to fight for (usually)
and for the girl who said 50% of marriages fail, what is the percent of regular relationships that fail? no one has a statistic on that, because relationships that last go on to.....marriage! anything else ends. so getting married is still better.

Marriage used to be sacred (not necessarily religous), but now it is just something that people do, not a big deal because divorce is an option.

People are way too selfish and not getting married is just an easy wat out. Noone likes to commit anymore. Stupid. Marriage is alive and well in my home but as for the country....sad to say people are missing out on the joy it brings. Joy outweighs the occasional pain.
