its so you dont have to keep injecting your veins if you need to take alot of medicne...like cancer paitents get this opperation, you have some disc thing right near your collar bone under your skin and the nurse can inject the needle there instead of your veins so they dont get harmed or depleted or what not

Porta-Cath, PICC line, Central Venous Line, the one by the collar bone is a Porta-Cath. They are longer term solutions for giving medicine rather than a temporary venous line.

It is called a port or reservoir or you can also get a picc line or central venous catheter that is inserted into the vessals of the heart and all are good and safe but i like the picc line myself
