Inside looking in is what I meant to say.

Sammy Hagar has a song called Inside looking in, maybe he made it up, but it must mean something.

It means not being part of the "group", but rather having to watch instead of participate.

I'm assuming your question was supposed to be "OUTSIDE looking in"?
