Well you don't mention what kind of work that you do, but some offices might not think that stockings with seams are appropriate for the office, they should just state that in the employee handbook.
Some consider that to be a bit more dressy to wear the seams. I do see a pair every once in a while in my office building.

Yes, it should be OK. The boss who said something may have stepped over the sexual harassment line. Is there a dress code? It used to be that seamed stocking were the ONLY kind available, back in the 40's and were originally made from rayon. I had a lady friend a while back who wore stockings every day to the office where she worked. The office she worked in had a dress code for women which specified seamless hosiery, no sandals, hemline below the knee and no sleeveless tops, among other things. Likewise, there was a similar dress code for men. She wore regular RHT nylons because they were comfortable, because she liked them and also because she could not find pantyhose which fit properly. I have seen women with seamed stockings from time to time in downtown Seattle, not very often though.

That's ridiculous. There is nothing wrong with seamed stockings except for that they are a wee bit sexier then regular ones.
If the rest of the outfit was modest it should have been fine.

Actually, by making comment about the stockings, that employer may have commited an act of sexual harassment. (Why were you staring at my legs?) I have never heard of it being a problem. I always thought the seams were a pain to keep straight!

Yeah, for dressing up in the bedroom I might throw on some thigh highs and a garter belt...but usually not to go out anywhere. Last time I wore stockings in public was my sisters wedding, like 5 years ago.

It used to be seemed stockings were only worn by woman in the sex industry or a woman looking sexy for her man at home. I guess u may compare it to wearing a corseted top to work.
I know they have become more fashionable but its easy to understand that people a little older may not be able to adjust to such a sultry fashion trend.

unacceptable boss, no question
whatever she does, as long as she's not wearing a top that shows she's wearing a sheer bra (or no bra) she's fine, and as long as you couldn't tell she was wearing a garter belt (or not) then it was fine....I'd say she should file a sexual harassment suit on her boss and see about sueing the company if the boss isn't fired....she has a witness, right?(you, I assume)
either way, the freedom of expression act decreed that anything one wishes to wear in the work place(within acceptable perameters, ofcourse) so long as it does not interfere with their being able to work properly and does not infringe on any WRITTEN dress code.
(However, when I was staying with my aunt, it was in their dress code at her job to wear panty-hose at work, even in pants, and they had her sign a paper stating that she read and understood the dress code, so make sure that there's nothing written down about seamless hose anywhere before taking action or advising taking action)
