every year I set up a christmas mission for my 2 little sisters. On christmas eve they get to sneak downstairs to see what "santa" brought and they get to look for clues that "santa" was here. it has been something i do for them every year. they love it. my question is, what else could we do on christmas eve to celebrate "the mission" ? any craft ideas? stories? anything?

Maybe you could read stories about different "Santa's" from around the world. I had a book like that when I was little and I loved to read about how different children celebrated Christmas. Like the dutch children who leave out their shoes for treats. Or some culture who believe gifts were brought by a women who was going to visit Christ with the magi but she wanted to make a gift and it took to long and he was gone (to egypt) so she left things at every child's door hoping somehow it would get to Jesus.

Besides the tradional leaving cookies & milk for Santa and reading "Twas the Night before Christmas" on Christmas Eve, we have a few more traditions that are special to us that we started with my son (who is now 7).

1) We let him open one present on Christmas Eve.
2) Just before he goes to bed, we go outside...him in his pj's robe & slippers and sprinkle reindeer food for the reindeer. It's a great picture opportunity and in the morning he goes out to see the reindeer hoove prints.
3) We read the Christmas Story on Christmas morning.
4) Also, we always sponsor a needy child and/or fill Salvation Army stockings.

I think this is how you make memories to cherish. I look forward to reading all of the traditions on this page.

How about starting a tradition of making christmas cookies every christmas eve? My daughter and I always make something, last year we did truffles and wrapped in cute christmas saran wrap and gave them to our family. You could get candy boxes too from thr craft store and decorate them with stickers. You could also do simple crafts, mae ornaments out of paper and string, make frames out of popsicle sticks and use christmas colors.

Have fun!
