I hear ya, sister. When I quit I must have gained 20 pounds. It wasn't so much that I was hungry (though I did have more of an appetite), but more that my mouth just felt strangely empty.
The best advice I got was to drink lots of water and chew gum, not necessarily at the same time. Drinking water will make you feel full, so you won't feel so much like putting everything in your mouth. Plus, it will help flush the toxins from your body (not just nic, but all the other wonderful stuff in cigs too, plus any crap from the junkfood you've probably already inhaled... right?) Chewing gum isn't so good for you, but it'll keep your mouth busy without you having to actually eat anything.
If you're going to turn into a pen addict (you know, chewing on pens, pencils, etc) make sure you only chew on your own pens (better for your health and your friendships), and wash your hands regularly.

BTW, don't substitute pop for water (even sugar-free). It just doesn't work the same.

Hope this helps, and best of luck to you. Keep coming here for ideas and advice - there are lots of other ex-smokers around who'd love to help you stay in the club.

It's going to be hard, believe me. I quit after 15 years and I too started eating. If you are going to eat, start doing physical activities like going to a gym or playing sports. Not only will you begin to condition your lungs but you will burn off the excess calories you gain from eating. It's completely natural to begin eating when you quit. Try working out, it helps. All the best.

try " tea tree tooth picks " they have a slight menthol taste to them . they give you something to do with your hands and mouth . Chewable vitiam C is also good , Dentyne Ice because it's flavor is strong . Exercise is also very important , it helps relieve stress and will also help with weight control . . not sure how long since you quit , but can tell you that it takes time to break the habit . Do not be discouraged if you slip . try to take it one day at a time

Chew alot of gum, it helped me. Get the sugarless too.
I made sure to stick to a variety of fruit/veggies, so I had little guilt.

Good for you!
(I always quit then start up again)
