Why doesn't this quote apply today? Should we change JFK's words to read....?

Ask not what you can do for your country, but what your country can do for you

Thank you for reminding me that those words were from a Democrat. Even his brother (uncle Teddy ). has forgot them. The Dem's. of today say you can not do anything without our help . The Reps. ( who are for small government) say do what you can for yourself then what you can not do , we will then help.Isn't it strange, A Democrat said it but a Republican is doing it. What a glorious world.

I completely agree with you! The youth and I say youth being 16 to early 20's, is very much me me me oriented, give me, I want, I shouldn't have to work for it!! Blah blah blah. They think they should be automaticaly given a 6 figure job, 5000 sq ft house, and the jet skis and it should just be offered up to them. Thats why they lean left in politics. The democratic party promises them everything, but doesn't say how it intends to pay for it. Here free Health care, heres free food stamps, sure we'll pay you for doing nothing. What these youth don't realize is when they see how much taxes they are paying, the house, the jet skis and the 6 figure job don't amount for much when you can't pay for it~

That latter statement you made is somewhat an accurate description of people’s current political expectation. I think a more apt rendition of JFK’s landmark statement for the current administration is:

“Ask not what your country can do for you, but how best to exploit other countries!”

JFK was more of a conservative than New Gingrich. Just listen to those fine words again.

"Ask NOT what you country can do for you, ask what YOU can do for your country".

I think that both are important... we should all strive to help the country... but the main goal of government is to provide services, at the very least security, to the people... that's not nothing...

the more we all give, the more we all get back... government is made up of American citizens just like me and you.. and they give back every day...

to just say what can you do for your country or what can it do for you isn't maximizing the potential of both working together... and when they work together... that's what makes America great...

Wise words from John F. Kennedy. It is just as relevant in 2006 as it was in 1961.

Or in Ted Kennedy's words...

"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask where the nearest bridge is to drive off and kill an innocent woman...*hic!*"

No we still live in a 'me me me' society. Look at gay marriage and abortion. I like reading about JFK and I think he would have been a great president.

It sounds better this way(Ask not what you can do for your country but what your party can do for you)
