If your in the UK and do not have any children under 18 involved and agree to how the proceeds of the marriage is going to be split, then you can go for one of those cheap DIY divorces that cost around £50 or less. You will find information on how to do this from the Internet and if you want to get a lawyer involved your best to make an appointment and get some legal advice regards procedures and costs involved. The first half hour with a lawyer is usually for free with a lot of firms, and they will advice you and you can take it from there or decide to go for a DIY divorce where you fill in your own forms. Divorce doesn't have to be expensive and of course much depends on the couple's circumstances and the kind of services that are needed.

Try to do it without involving solicitors, they are the biggest cause of ill feeling that ever was. As for cost, well if you go to a solicitor, they ain't gonna hurry, why stop the gravy train early and get off, it also depends on how much control you want to take, solicitors love the weak who just "cant face" all the heartache, which most of the time the solicitors create. My ex let her solicitor handle the lot, with no input from her at all. He was a ruthless b'stard with no idea of what he was doing to my children and used them as a weapon. My divorce cost me over £17k in legal fees and £308K in money she took when she emptied the joint account, a thriving business and lost equity in my house. And she had the affair!!! tell your ex to contact me and I will tell him to give up any hope of being financially secure again, so he may as well swallow his pride and just give you everything. It saves an awful lot of heartache. I have forgiven my wife the affair and the divorce, but I will never forgive the way she behaved with her solicitor, she ruined me financially.
Hope you read this chas lee, nice to hear you done well out of him, make you real proud. Unfortunately its not all about how much money you can make from a divorce, its about how many lives get ruined. Your attitude seems to be indemmic of this whole western civilisation, how much money can I make from others misery, and the **** them jack way of thinking.

you're a woman so it won't cost you a f*£king thing but your ex partner will be paying for the rest of his life ----- solicitors fees, the house you and the kids will get, he won't get anything even if you sell at grossly inflated price, a car which you will need to drop kids at school, oohh child maintenance too and maybe a huge settlement agreement also. After all that, having never done anything but drop off kids at school, i don't think it will cost you anything, in fact i think you will have made a huge profit from being nothing but a nanny and a decorater. And by the way you will also have the income of your next future ex.

You file a petiton first. Then have the party serverd or sign a waiver or agreement. Then you set or are given a court date.
The cost varies from state to state. You can file and apply for an affidavit of indigency where your fees may be waived if you qualify...

you're getting used. He says he can area with somewhat funds? What a daft assertion. you're entitled to a payout and the faster you get a solicitor to characterize your case, the extra effective. you will not ought to pay a cent till your sources contract comes by. I agree that criminal expenses are ridiculously costly, yet thus you not have a call till you prefer to be trodden over for something of your existence. Get some backbone and stick up to your rights!

Why are you posting that here? Call a divorce lawyer and ask. It would be faster and much more accurate than anything you'd find on the yahoo forums.

Ask your ex-to-be. You're both on the same road. Try and be nice about it. Acrimony pays no dividend. It's very heavy baggage to carry the rest of the way.

Sit around the table with your partner, and talk, it will be hard BUT it will be cheaper,
You give a little and get them to give a little.
Good luck to both of you.
