Start doing a podcast of your singing. Talk about your life, friends, family, the music you like, etc. This will give you exposure, free publicity and a way to practice your singing.
Here's a good example of what I mean. The podcast is called "Radio Free Calamity"
It's done by a 14 year old girl and her 11 year old brother in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They talk about school, friends, family, and life in general. They also sing and play their own instruments. She plays the piano and guitar, he the drums. It's a pretty cool podcast.

Good luck

Audition for American Idol.

If not, record a demo and take any gig you can. Sell the demo at the shows. Get your name out there any way you can. NEVER send it to a radio station or record company - it'll get tossed right in the garbage. NEVER approach someone who works for a radio station or record company and ask them to listen to your stuff.

Long story short - you want them to come to you. That's how record deals usually happen. (My friends got a deal from Sony records because a friend of an A&R Rep saw them play in a club.)
