The spinach scare is over. The outbreak has been traced to a field contaminated with cow feces, so it is NOT a problem any more.

Several years ago Consumer Reports studied a wide variety of vitamins and found that for rates of absorption and the wide spectrum of vitamins Centrum brand vitamins are the best.

There are also reported cases of the bottom of a septic tank covered with old One-a-Day vitamins. They are among the worst vitamins in the report.

Vita-Lea multivitamin/multimineral will give you everything you need. Provides 23 essential vitamins and minerals plus has the patented Bioactivated Absorption System which ensures enhanced absorption of folic acid, a critical component to complete nutrition. Over the leading brands Vita-Lea has 2X the antioxidants for prevention of free radical damage, 2X the calcium for stronger bones, 10X the biotin, a catalyst for energy production and 349 quality tests are performed every time Vita-Lea is produced to guarantee purity and potency.

I've given them just a simple water test and they start breaking down in a matter of a couple minutes so no danger of them passing through the body being completely intact unlike Centrum has been known to do.

They are available with and without iron and also in liquid form.

Hope this is useful.

An excellent multi vitamin/mineral supplement from all natural sources is Green Source from Puritan's Pride. The label says to take three a day, but I only take one, sometimes two, if I feel like I'm fighting a cold or something. Not sure about the source of iron though. When choosing a supplement, be sure and buy a natural source supplement. They are more expensive, but well worth the investment in your own health. Those cheap grocery store vitamins are just about worthless. They contain artificially manufactured forms of the nutrients which are very difficult for our body to absorb and utilize.

Womens One a Day.....it has 3 varieties and also there is Mens One a Day......these are the top of the line multivitamins....any vitamins you take will take about 2 weeks to get results because it has to build up first. If you are looking for iron from food liver has lots. Also my doctor has told me to drink juice high in vitamin C when taking any iron supplement or multi vitamin...because this helps the absorption of iron. I am pregnant and being treated for severe anemia this is how I know. Tomatoes, liver, nuts, beans and certain cereals are excellent for getting iron...also cooking your spaghetti sauce in a cast iron pot also adds iron. remember without the vit C you cant absorb the iron as well.

vitamin pills are a waste of money, as most of them, including centrum, go right thru you without dissolving. If you want a vitamin supplement that will be 100% bioavailable you want a liquid vitamin. The best I've found is Lifeforce, I buy it by the gallon. They have a website.
