Hilary Duff is a very good singer and her music is inspiring to me, eventhough I essentially listen to bhajans and aartis. How would you react if Hilary sang a bhajan or aarti? An aarti, by the way, is a fire offering that is accompanied by a song, also called an aarti. Some good bhajans she could sing include Ganapati Bhappa and Shiv Jap Le. As for aarti's she could sing Om Jai Jagadish Hare, Shirdi Maze, Ovalu aarti, Rusu Mam and others. Those aartis are dedicated to Shirdi Sai Baba, a saint. Tell me what you think.

I am an Indian from India. I am from Maharashtra and I like the bhajan in Sant Tukaram Aashi beej ekale Beeh ankurali ropa wadhale Eka beejapotee phale kotee kotee Kotee janm gheti sumane phale Vyapooni jagta toohi ,Ananta Pari anti Brahma ekale It was composed by the Marathi poet Shantaram but it was so close to the Tukaram's tradition that people who had spent their lives on Tukaram tried to search in which his gathas it was included but could not find it. Mr LRPangarkar who was the topmost amongst them at last prayed Shantaram to tell him. Shantarm sheepishly replied that it was his own piece in Tukaram's tradition. Besides being full of devotional import this song also shows how you could get into the heart if you try to set yourself in tune with the Infinite.

I'm sikh, but I know a lot about the hindu faith. I actually think that it would be cool and would increase cultural awareness. Just wondering: would you expect her to sing in raags? Would the hindu community where you live really appreciate her singing bhajans? Would she be able to pronounce anything correctly?

By the way, there are many good singers who are Indian : )

I would think not unless she is Hindu. It would be like a Wiccan singing the Panis Angelicus. I would not be comfortable listening to it knowing that the singer didn't believe what they were singing. For storyline songs, that's OK to play pretend. With someone else's religious beliefs and prayers, I don't think it is.

Personally, I don't think she's ever really had a good voice. I like her songs, just not her singing them. So I'd have to say no, I don't think she should be singing those songs, if any at all.
