Any suggestions for my daughter who is trying to wean her 1 year old who won't take formula or a bottle and is allergic to milk. My daughter is going back to work very soon. Thank you.

Keep nursing when they are together.

When they are apart, give her water, calcium fortified juices, soy milk or rice milk or pumped breastmilk and solid foods.

Offer the supplemental liquids in a sippy cup or a straw cup (see link below for one many breastfed babies do well with) instead of a bottle. Have someone other than mom introduce the new drinking vessel, preferably while mom is not around.

have your daughter check to see if soy or rice milk is okay. my three year old is allergic to milk and soy gives him an upset tummy, so we give him rice milk. westsoy makes a reasonably nutritious milk (25% of daily calcium per 8 oz) but can be expensive (i've found it @$2.22 per quart). I really prefer RiceDream, the enriched gives you a better amount per serving (30%) and is cheaper ( we can get it at $2.56 per half gallon). At one year old, your grandson is too young for goats milk, and it does contain the same protein that a lot of people are allergic to in cow's milk (casein). the best part is, they do make flavored varities that are not any more expensive than the regular!

She could pump breastmilk at work for her baby. I'm not sure from the question if she just wants to wean or if she feels she must because she's going back to work. She might accept breastmilk from a sippy cut (at 1 the baby is old enough for a sippy cup instead of bottle).

talk to the pediatrican, have an allergist work the baby up and go from there... my little one is allergic to milk and soy, and well we have to continue to give him formula until age 2, he failed the milk challange test and could not tolerate it.
you may have to add applesauce to the formula or something to make it flavorful...
I would defintly talk to the ped doc....
if you go ahead and go to reg milk, then you can cause the baby to go into shock (and maybe cardiac arrest), they can have gi bleeding, breathing problems, hives, etc.... its very important to do this under the supervison of an allergist

Soy milk is the best. It also comes in vanilla and other flavors.

Why doesn't your daughter check with her daughter's pediatrician?
