Given how obese and unhealthy most kids are becoming, the best thing you can do is give them a treat that is somewhat wholesome and good for them. Try giving them a granola bar, or a small puzzle that you can buy at a dollar store. Really the whole notion of Halloween is a bit silly. After all, what does it teach our kids? That door-to-door begging and gluttony are admirable virtues?

I agree, No raisins or pennies...
I have been noticing though that many companies are fun sizing their products for trick or treaters... At Wal Mart the other day I saw pretzels and Oreos in small bags to be handed out... Not as bad as candy, but not as lame as raisins!

We used to give the good chocolates - Hershey's. But after talking with a friend of ours - we discovered how upsetting it could be to juvenile diabetics to not be able to trick or treat because of all the candy so we are giving pencils and erasers and spider rings. Not very original but safe for all.

Give them candy in sealed wrappers.
Anything that is not in the original packaging will get thrown away by their parents.
NO RAISINS. NO PENNIES.

I saw a house last year give those HiC fruit box drinks and it was good cuz the kids got thirsty while walking ( we live in AZ, ok..lol)
and then another house gave these little playdough tubs that are out for halloween now.
Baskin Robbins ice cream cone certificates are great too!

I put candy in a little basket and put ribbons on it so it would look much neater and tastier!! Then I get twice as much trick or treaters the following year!

I got spider ring's this year also Mcdonald's gift certificates.
I don't like to give candy anymore. There are two many weird people. I have two grandchildren and their father goes with them, and to only the houses they know. It's safer.

yeh i agree with making sure its sealed bc parents usually check their childrens candy to make sure that its not tampered with or have needle holes in it or anything. and they will probably throw out whats not sealed then you wasted your money on something that was thrown out. usually lollypops, gum, mini candy bars, sweettarts, pixie sticks. you can usually get mixed up bags of candy at any store.
