I'm willing to keep him here as long as necessary, or take him to a refuge if that's what's best. What else should I do?

DO NOT: feed KMR, Puppy milk replacer, Esbilac, they are all highly adulterated cows milk. For emergencies use EVAPORATED MILK DILUTED 50%. DO NOT USE an eye dropper, or a 'pet nurser'. Get a 3cc/mil syringe from the drug store. WITHOUT the Hypodermic. Are you keeping the baby warm? How? Is it furred or pink ? How did you determine it's a 'newborn'? Edit w/more info, Please! On your computer type in "Squirrel Nutrtion and Care". This is the website of THE BEST rehabber in the country, her record proves it . READ and follow to the letter her instructions. Let me know, please, how this comes out.

Not Milk!

There is apuppy milk replacement formula called "esibolac". But you need to mix it differently than the directions to make it richer (if directions say 1 pt water, 1 part formula, mix it 1 pt water 2 pts formula) you will probably need to get a tiny little bottle or an eye dropper. How big is the squirrel? eyes open? haired out? If this JUST happened, best to leave it for an hour or so. Momma will likely come & get it.

Take it to a refuge. That's what I did When I found one in my backyard.

I think you should take him to a refuge. If it's still a little baby give it some warm milk, if it's a little older cat food is what i heard helps.

Take the squirrel to the refuge - if it has health issues they may be able to treat it or find a surrogate mom

Usually the parents will take care of them if you put it back. If not you can buy kitten milk to feed it. I would call the local wildlife conservation center, and ask them.

Take it to the vet or get a baby bottle with warm milk.

Number one it is illegal to have wildlife without a license.
Please give him to an experienced wildlife rehabilatator before you kill him and you will kill him. We just had 2 "do - gooders" drop off squirrels they were raising and both died terrible deaths where they seizured until they died because the people fed them inappropriately. Call a local veterinary office or your states dept. of natural resources.

I think milk would be a good idea, call your local vet and ask them about getting the baby a home.
