OK WELL PULL YOUR SELF DOWN IN THE SADDLE AS BEST YOU CAN AND TRY TO MOVE WITH THE HORSES MOVEMENT, IT REALLY IS EASY, IF YOU NEED HELP GETTING THE HORESES MOVEMENT DOWN THAN RIDE BAREBACK, I THINK IT IS EASYER TO RIDE BAREBACK THAN IT IS WITH A SADDLE BUT I THINK THATS JUST ME. AND TRY TO LOOK GRACEFUL LIKE YOUR CANTERING ON COWDS ALSO SIT ON YOUR BUTT!!!!!!!! I KNOW A HORSES CANTER CAN SUCK *** BUT SIT ON YOUR BUTT!!! IT WILL HELP

Ride without stirrups. A lot. Having someone to lunge your horse while you do this helps a lot with your seat, because then you don't have to worry about where your horse is going. Once your can ride the gaits good on the lunge line, ride without stirrups with you controlling the horse. Its a lot of work, but its the best way to get a great seat.

well sorry but your trainer is an idiot....you can learn to jump in trot. i still have some balance trouble on my right lead canter but i still do jumping. if you just started riding you still do need to wait a little bit to get your hands and seat quiet. but for your trainer to tell you you can't jump because you suck at canter, is rude and moronic. sorry. (ps i noticed you wrote an answer to someone else knowing everything there is to know about english riding. obviously you don't if you are asking questions like this.)

You should be able to ride ALL gaits without stirrups and reins (being longed) and should be able to maintain the 2-point position without stirrups also BEFORE you jump.
Jumping before you have developed your seat can lead to riding problems later such as you relying on the reins and stirrups to keep your balance.
We all had to pay our dues before we jumped and we are all better riders because of it, not to mention that out horses appreciate it!
Learn all the basics BEFORE you jump.
I HIGHLY recommend George Morris's book Hunter Seat Equitation as a reference to learn about becoming a jumper! It is a MUST HAVE!!!

Ride without stirrups as often as you can. It will help strengthen your leg muscles. You must be able to hold your 2point without hanging on the horses mouth before you can even think about jumping. Also, ride as much as you can, on all kinds of horses. Good luck!

You cannot just *poof* and become a better rider, but i suggest you relax your seat, use the proper seat, which is kind of a back and forth motion, like sliding almost but not really. I will answer your question better later .
