I was a young kid when it came by in the 80s and I am told I saw it but don't really remember. Did you see it? Was it all that impressive?

Yeah, I remember getting up at zero-dark-thirty and freezing my butt off just to see a dim fuzz through binoculars. It was not that spectacular.

I tracked it with 15x80 binoculars firstly from Saudi Arabia where I was working, and then from Key West on vacation.

Unfortunately Halley's never came anywhere near as close this last time, as it did in 1910. In 1910, its tail filled half the sky, and some people thought the Earth would get poisoned if it passed through its tail.

Some idiots predicted the end of the world and gave away all their possessions. People never stop amazing me with their stupidity. The tail of a comet is in fact still nearer a vacuum than what you could produce in a lab.

I remember learning about it in the early 60s. I thought the 80s was a million years away. Buy I did see it on the very last night it was visible in the US. It was pretty cool! It looked like Comet Hale-Bopp in the late 90s but not as clear.

I was only 12 - I went out to see it one night, but I didn't really know what to look for (I didn't know much about astronomy at the time). I've been told that it wasn't a good appearance, anyway, so I don't think I missed much. The pictures I've seen from 1986 seem to bear that out, too - nothing like the previous appearances. I did see Hyakutake and Hale-Bopp 10 years ago, though - those were neat!

Yes I did. It was not very impressive. Comet West in 1976 was the most impressive comet I have seen.

Nah. I was planning on it, but I had better things to do. I wa just a kid and didn't care too much. I'll catch it next time. Once in a lifetime, right, I'll still be here.

It is much more impressive when you have at least a small telescope or binoculars. I could barely see it because of all the polution where I was.

I may have but I don't remember I think it was easier to see in the southern hemisphere and I live in Maine.

Thought it was pretty strange. It looked like it was moving and not moving at the same time
