well they cant be totally hated but no they dont have to be likable in order to succeed

They don't have to be likable but their political platform has to be likable. Not everyone like George Washington but his platform was strong and he was a very strong leader.

No but they shouldn't use folksy terms and know how to respond to questions properly.
