I'm so tired of hearing what canidates did that they shouldn't have or didn't do and should have!

I would love to hear from the canidates and what they feel they bring to the table and how they stand on the issues. I always do my homework and find out how they vote or how they stand, but I know that not everyone does.

Okay, I'm done ranting....how do you feel about the TV ads in your area?

I've been tired of it since 1969.

Hell, yes. This sucks. I hate it when people say that mudslinging and smear campaigns are a part of politics. Wrong, they're part of American politics. If your state is having a proposition for Instant Runoff Voting, please vote yes. I think if we want our country to break the duopoly we have to react now before our system turns into a democratic dictatorship. I agree with you about the campaigns; they should be based on issues not if you're gay, if you're a scizophrenic or any of that stuff. Who cares if a person was in the hospital just because he/she had a nervous breakdown when he/she was younger? Money and politics don't go hand in hand because of the PACs. I always vote for the candidate who best represents the issues. Now, I'm voting absentee for FL's elections (living in Chile) and had the typical problem an American voter like you or me face: the lesser of two evils. Both candidates represented the issues I focused on but I voted for the candidate with the most experience. Lucky, I'm concerned about who to vote for and how the candidates represent me. And the few ads I've seen have been on the net but the best ads tend to be the U.S. Senate ones, I guess.

Well... the campaigns have been over for a week now. But the smears just keep on rollin'. It's too bad some people are so wrapped up in their egos that they can't see how much trouble we're in.

You get what you pay for. If a politician trashed another to get into office, they will automatically think it was because of their campaign rhetoric.

Until we (the people) vote common sense we will never see an end to smear campaigns. The tactics work so, to a politician: You don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Since you said you do your homework then you must know that a campaign pledge is not a true mandate for an electorate. They can say what ever they want to get them elected. And lets not forget.... If they don't tow the party line they won't get the party money.

This is one of the things that bugs me the most in life. I am a voting freak... haven't missed a primary or general yet in my voting age life. I live in MN where there is currently a senate race that is pretty substantial seeing as how I live in a swing state and there is the potential of tipping the senate one way or another based on how our state (and others) fare out. So, it really bugs me when I turn on the tv and one of the candidates' (lets call her candidate #1) ads are all about her and the work she has done, and the other candidates' (candidate #2) ads are all about #1 and the things he thinks she has done wrong and lied about and whatnot and a lot of the things said are obviously lies. My problem is the same as yours, that not everyone digs deeper than what they see on tv and I hate knowing that people are choosing who they vote for based on lies. Grrr.

AMEN! Here in Tennessee, it's Bob Corker against Harold Ford Jr., and it's pretty disgusting on both sides. They're all "Bob Corker kicks puppies!" "Harold Ford eats babies!" It's like, shut up and talk about the ISSUES. All the negativity makes me feel kind of gross, and I'm inclined to stay away from the polls because of it. Politicians, yuck.

Smear ads on TV and the radio draw more attention to the average person. But yes I do agree with you. But that's politics.

I agree. In Minnesota it seems to be Republicans smearing all other candidates an the others sticking to issues. I guess the Republicans can only try to intimidate, rather than talk issues.

I hate the political smear ads. Really turning me off. Tell me about your life experience and what you want to do. That's all I need.

Because it is easier to twist the truth than it is to speak intelligently about the issues.

Also, it is easier to remember lies than to learn the truth.
