WHAT THE HELL IS SILENT HILL 1(FOR PLAYSTATION) REALLY ABOUT??? CUZ IT DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE TO ME....

Silent Hill had a crazy deep storyline. In here, I only will do a basic overview of what happened -- I'm not going too into depth of the inner meanings.



The game opens as Harry Mason is taking his young daughter Cheryl on a vacation to Silent Hill. He makes his way down the highway and is passed by a female cop on a motorcycle. No other cars are to be seen. A while later, he sees an abandoned motorcycle on the side of the road. He examines it and as he looks back ahead of him, he barely misses hitting a young girl. He swerves the car through a guardrail and into Silent Hill. He loses consciousness and awakes sometime later to see his daughter missing. He jumps out of the car and spots her through the fog. Harry beings to chase her, confused about why she would run away from him. He makes his way to an alley and is attacked by several mumblers -- grotesque mutated children wielding butcher knives. He is 'killed' by them and awakes sometime later in a cafe with Cybil, the cop from before who abandoned her motorcycle.


Cybil tells him he's the first person she's seen. She gives him a handgun to protect himself and leaves to call for backup. Harry finds a small radio and as he tries to leave, the radio emits a eerie static noise. A flying beast breaks through the window and attacks him. Harry easily defeats it and sets out to find Cheryl once again. He finds some clues on her drawing paper, such as the words, "to school". He puts two and two together and heads for Midwich Elementary School to find her. The school is empty other than more mumblers. He solves a few riddles and makes his way to the clock tower. As he exits the tower, he sees a huge cult like symbol called the Mark of Samael on the ground. He also enters the school once again and finds it completely twisted. Rusted metal gratings cover the ground in place of flooring. The walls are also grating, caked with dried blood. Dead corpses are everywhere and chains hang from the metal ceiling. What is going on here? Harry enters what used to be the teacher's room and tries the phones. They are dead. As he tries to leave, one of them begins to ring. He cautiously picks it up to hear his daughter's desperate please begging for his help. Harry is overcome with emotion and carries on with his search. He fights a grotesque lizard creature in the school basement. As it dies, he hears sirens and the world slowly shifts back to what it was before -- a normal school.


As he exits the school, he hears church bells ringing. He heads over to the church and meets Dahlia Gillespie. She only gives him a bunch of riddles and a mysterious object known as the Flauros. Confused, but nonetheless determined to find Cheryl, he heads over to Central Silent Hill. New strange monsters fill the mist covered streets as he makes his way to the police station. Inside, he learns about a mysterious drug known as "White Claudia" that has been manufactured here in Silent Hill. Harry quickly heads over to the Alchemilla Hospital after finding nothing useful in the Police Station.


The hospital is eerie enough without any monsters plaguing the insides. He soon meets Dr. Michael Kaufmann, the owner of the hospital. He says he fell asleep and when he woke up, there were monsters flooding the city and an unseasonable snow began to fall. He is confused, but his story sounds somewhat fishy. Harry leaves after the doctor and soon discovers a strange red liquid vile shattered on the floor. He may or may not gather some up, depending on the player's choice. This action will ultimately effect which ending you receive. Harry heads for the elevator and the end of the hall and enters it. After leaving, he sees an image of the girl he nearly hit with his jeep entering an antique shop. He ignores that and heads into his disgusting new surroundings. The same thing as what happened at the school happened here! The floor is grating, and caked with blood. The walls are still walls, but are covered with blood and appear to be in shambles. He is also forced to fight mutant nurses and doctors here, all with a strange living hump on their backs.


He continues on, undaunted, and solves quite a few puzzles along the way. He ultimately ends up in the Examination room and meets the terrified nurse, Lisa Garland. She seems very scared and surprisingly normal. She has the same story as Kaufmann. As Harry talks to her, he eventually is overcome with a strange sensation and awakens in the normal hospital with Dahlia. She says he must stop the town from being devoured by darkness and must make his way to the "Other Church". He is confused again and heads to the antique shop that he remembers seeing as he exited the elevator at the hospital. Cybil meets him in here saying she can't leave because all exits have destroyed. She also says she saw a little girl, fitting Harry's description of Cheryl, floating through the air. He tells her to wait for him and he enters a secret passage containing an alter. It appears to be a cult's place of worship. He falls unconscious inside and awakens in the hospital with Lisa again. Harry questions her about Dahlia before being sent back to the other world again. It is dark here, grating for the ground even outside. Even more strange creatures fill these streets. Harry makes his way to the mall and sees Cheryl's frightened image across the many TV screens. He gathers some useful items before fighting a huge larvae in the basement.


After Harry kills the larvae, he heads on over to Alchemilla hospital again. (Since it's the dark Silent Hill, Lisa is there). He asks her to come along with him to protect her, but she insists on staying put. She tells him the only way to get to the lake is to take the sewers. (Cybil told him she saw Cheryl floating above the lake). As he leaves the hospital he is attacked by a huge moth. He easily defeats it and heads for the sewers. Strange and frightening creatures fill the sewers, it is a real challenge to make your way through the confusing tunnels with monsters at every turn. He eventually finds the key to leave and makes his way to the exit.


Harry is now in the Silent Hill Resort Area. He explores the many points of interest, ultimately ending up at Annie's Bar. Inside, he finds Kaufmann being attacked by a teddy bear monster. He kills it and Kaufmann leaves without thanking Harry. (Whether you save him or not determines which ending you get as well). Harry finds the motel key and some of the mysterious drugs known as "White Claudia". Apparently the store employee was addicted to it, as were many of the residents of Silent Hill. Harry heads over to the tacky motel and finds a strange vial of the red liquid he got from the floor in the hospital. Dr. Kaufmann comes in again and yells at Harry before taking the vial away.


As Harry runs down the darkened streets, the world once again shifts to the nightmarish world of metal gratings and excessive monsters. He heads down to the docks and onto a boat. There, he meets up with Cybil again and she agrees to help you look for Cheryl rather than an exit to the town. Dahlia Gillespie appears on the boat with them and tells them they need to protect the Lighthouse and Amusement Park from the Mark of Samael if they want to save Cheryl. Cybil heads for the amusement park leaving the lighthouse to Harry.


As Harry reaches the top of the Lighthouse, he once again sees the girl from before. She disappears into thin air and Harry looks around at the huge Mark of Samael at his feet. He heads back to the boat to wait for Cybil. After she doesn't appear, he heads back down into the sewers and up into the amusement park. Once inside, Harry experiences one of the creepiest places in the entire game. (THE creepiest in my opinion, with all of the working rides and such.) Harry heads for the merry-go-round and is attacked by Cybil, who seems to be possessed by something, similar to the nurses and doctors in the hospital. Harry either kills her or uses the red liquid on her if you picked it up earlier. (For purposes of this storyline, I am using the Good+ ending, in which you rescue Cybil and save Kaufmann. There are 4 endings based on variations of these two events and also one joke UFO ending that you use the Channeling stone in). Harry saves Cybil and as she is exorcised of the parasite, he explains that Cheryl is not his biological daughter. He and his wife found her years before in a graveyard on the side of the road. With no one else to take her, the couple raised her as their own. Harry's wife died a bit later of a terminal illness and since then it has been just him and Cheryl.


Harry tries to leave the amusement park, but soon sees the girl once again. As he tries to come near her, the Flauros from Dahlia begins to shine and shoots the girl down. Dahlia soon appears and scolds the girl, who we now learn is named Alessa. Harry falls unconscious again and awakens with Lisa. She looks different, and tells Harry she visited the basement and feels funny about it. Suddenly Lisa runs from the room back to the basement. Harry is confused but continues on nonetheless. As he leaves the room, he is suddenly in a different place. This place is a mixture of all of the places he's been. There are rooms from the school, hospital, mall, etc. What is going on!? He sees a young version of Alessa running down the hall giggling eerily. She reminds him of Cheryl slightly. Harry continues through this odd place and eventually meets up with Lisa again. She is upset and tells him that she is one of the evil zombie nurses. He is confused as she breaks down in front of him and begs him to help her. She looks at him and blood begins to drip from her face and every pore on her body. Her clean white nurse's uniform becomes soaked with blood and she holds out her arms for Harry to help her. He is terrified and pushes her away before running from the room and slamming the door. He leans up against it, keeping it closed as he listens to her pained sobs and knocking from the other side. He re-enters the room soon after and finds Lisa gone but her diary on the floor. It tells of her addiction to White Claudia and her painful experience as Alessa' nurse.


After solving many more puzzles, Harry sees two images of the past. One is of a little Alessa sitting in the middle of a disturbing room sobbing under the table. The room has scribblings and terrifying drawings all over the walls and floor. It appears to be the home of a very insane individual. He also sees an image of a group of people standing around a bed - Alessa's bed. Two of the people are Dahlia and Kafumann. This is obviously the cult that worships in the "Other Church". They are discussing how to bring about their lord, Samael, into this world. Alessa only contains half of the soul, and they need the other. They also talk about how they burned Alessa and how they plan to lure Cheryl back to Silent Hill. What a group of sick people! Harry also finds a videotape here of Lisa's confession. She speaks of how terrible it is to care for Alessa, not knowing what is keeping the poor child alive.


Harry enters one more room before the end. It is a child's room, probably Alessa's, and is creepy in it's own right. Harry leaves this room and finds himself in a hallway where he sees an image of Dahila fighting with a young Alessa. She wants Alessa to help with her cult's ritual and after she doesn't, Dahlia formulates a plan... Harry quickly runs down to the lower floor and sees Cybil and Dahlia with Alessa and a severely wounded, bandaged up person in a wheelchair. He demands to know where Cheryl is, but Dahlia explains that Alessa is Cheryl. Harry is upset and confused, but listens to the crazy woman talk about her god. Kaufmann comes in too and shoots Dahlia for causing things to have gotten so far. Alessa joins with the bandaged person and together they merge into one being. Kaufmann throws the red liquid at her, known as the Aglaophotis, causing Samael to come out of the girl. Harry kills it and watches as the place begins to fall apart. Dahlia is dead and Cybil wakes up after being knocked out earlier. A dying Alessa hands Harry a baby and lays down to die after pointing to the exit. Kaufmann heads to leave but is taken down to Hell by a mutated Lisa. Cybil and Harry run to safety with the baby.


The two run out of Silent Hill and make their way to a graveyard. The graveyard, where Harry had found Cheryl seven years earlier. The baby is the pure soul of Alessa and Cheryl. Each girl had been brought into the world with half an evil soul to form Samael. After they merged together to form the one, they were purged of the demon. What was left was whatever goodness they were meant to have. That made the baby. Harry took the baby with him and Cybil and probably raised it as his own, knowing that all that was good in Cheryl was present in the infant. (That's my take on the baby anyway.)

I've never played silent hill. But my friend say the movie follow the game pretty well. So if it's true then the game is about a woman trying to find her daughter and she ends up in this mess up town. Go watch the movie =)
