Well I've looked at the soundtrack and heres a few to choose from, seeing as you've given us so many clues!!!

Love Will Tear Us Apart"
Written and Performed by Joy Division

"Notorious"
Written by Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes and John Taylor
Performed by Duran Duran

"Head over Heels"
Written by Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal
Performed by Tears For Fears

The Killing Moon"
Written by Will Sergeant, Ian McCulloch, Les Pattinson and Pete De Freitas
Performed by Echo & The Bunnymen

(ps for future reference, a line or even a word from the lyric might be a bit more illuminating)

if its the one i like, plus i like the montage it is played over, it would be head over heals, by tears for fears. it the part near the start of the film when the camera goes through the school and we're introduced to characters without any dialogue
